NCAA Woman of the Year Award Info

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Class of 2017 graduate Erin Farrell, a multiple-time all-conference selection in both soccer and track and field, has been chosen as Ursinus College's nomination for the NCAA Woman of the Year award.

The NCAA Woman of the Year award honors the academic achievements, athletics excellence, community service, and leadership of graduating female college athletes from all three divisions.

Farrell's name and resume will join others from all over the country in the award pool, which will be trimmed to 10 Division III athletes in early September. Later in the month, three athletes will be selected as finalists.

Eligible female student-athletes are nominated by their member school. Each conference office then reviews the nominations from its core member schools (and sponsored sports) and submits its nominee(s) to the NCAA. The NCAA Woman of the Year selection committee then selects the Top 30 – 10 from each division – before choosing three finalists from each division. The Committee on Women's Athletics selects the winner from the Top 9.

The 2017 NCAA Woman of the Year will be announced on Sunday, Oct. 22 at the awards dinner in Indianapolis.

Farrell is one of 543 nominees for Woman of the Year, the most in the history of the program. She is among 198 honorees from Division III and one of only 49 to have played three sports (indoor and outdoor track are counted separately).

A decorated multi-sport athlete, Farrell was a two-time All-Centennial Conference soccer selection who also captured four individual gold medals at conference track championships during her career.

Farrell was this year's recipient of the Olive Sargeant Hamm Award, presented annually as an all-around prize for a senior woman who exemplifies "the best in college life – athletically, socially, and scholastically."

As a member of the soccer squad, Farrell accumulated 15 goals and 10 assists in 63 career starts, earning all-league honorable mention as a junior and senior. For the track and field team, Farrell won two straight indoor and outdoor gold medals in the 200-meter dash and owns school records in the 200 and 4x200-meter relay.

Highly involved on campus, Farrell was on the Senior Class gift committee in addition to serving as president of the B'Naturals and as a member of the College Choir. She was an RA for the past two years. Farrell has also been a research assistant, a volunteer at Children of America, an intern at the Bryn Mawr Church and ACLAMO, a soloist and guitarist at the Wynnefield Presbyterian Church, and also works locally as a caretaker and babysitter.

A Psychology major, Farrell graduated with a 3.57 GPA and was named to the Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll for the Fall, Winter, and Spring in each of the last three years.
