Baseball splits with Westminster in day three in Florida
FORT PIERCE,
Fla. – The Ursinus College baseball team forged a split with
Westminster (Pa.) on Tuesday afternoon, dropping the first game 7-2
before battling back to win the nightcap 8-7.
In game one, the Bears (4-3) got two hits each
from sophomore infielder Brandon Sullivan (Glibertsville,
Pa./Boyertown), junior Rob Vogt (Basking Ridge,
N.J./The Hill School), sophomore outfielder Ben
Gresh (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove) and senior outfielder
Tommy Clarke (Whitehouse Station,
N.J./Hunterdon).
Freshman pitcher Kyle Levocz
(Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge) took the loss, striking
out nine and not walking a batter.
In game two, Ursinus battled back from a deficit
to win in the bottom of the seventh. Senior outfielder
Brett Umstead (Green Lane, Pa./Upper Perkiomen)
drove in the tying run with a triple, while Umstead scored on a
game-winning hit by senior catcher Chris Fusco (Reading,
Pa./Exeter Township).
Vogt was 2-for-4 in the win.
Sophomore Sean Grimes (Villanova,
Pa./Radnor) got the win in relief of freshman pitcher
Allen Weaver (Lemoyne, Pa./Trinity). Grimes threw
3.2 innings, allowing eight hits.
Ursinus will take on Elizabethtown on
Thursday.
