Ten named All-Centennial; Rountree and Jaramillo named first-team
LANCASTER, Pa. – Ten members of the Ursinus College
football team were named All-Conference on Monday afternoon. The
team was voted upon by the head coaches in the Centennial
Conference at their annual meeting.
Two members of the squad were named first team as junior offensive
lineman Victor Jaramillo (Philadelphia, Pa./Roman
Catholic) and freshman defensive back Chris
Rountree (Lawnside, N.J./Haddon Heights) were named
first-team.
Sophomore wide receiver Al Desiderio (Philadelphia,
Pa./Roman Catholic) was named second-team wide receiver
and kick returner, while offensive lineman Anthony Figueroa
(Bridgeton, N.J./Cumberland Regional) also received
second-team honors.
Defensively, senior defensive lineman Mark Worrilow
(Wilmington, Del./The Charter School), sophomore
linebacker Greg Martell (Levittown, Pa./Neshaminy)
and sophomore defensive back JoeHenry (Medford,
N.J./Shawnee) earned second-team honors.
Junior defensive lineman Tony Stefanoni (Lumberton,
N.J./Holy Cross), junior linebacker Joe Galie
(Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville) and freshman punter
Derek Giannetti (Dresher, Pa./Upper Dublin) were
named honorable mention.
Jaramillo and Figueroa were part of an offensive line that gained
on average 330 yards of total offense per game.
Rountree became the first player in Ursinus history to achieve
first-team honors in the Centennial as a freshman. Rountree led the
Centennial Conference with seven interceptions and had a team-high
ten pass breakups. He also was second in the Centennial in passes
defended.
Desiderio had a team-high 738 yards receiving and grabbed five
touchdowns. He was fourth in the Centennial in yards per game. As a
kick returner, he averaged 24.4 yards per kick return with one
77-yard touchdown run, and had 16.2 yards per punt return with a
long of 90 yards. He was a honorable mention kick returner in
2008.
Worrilow, serving as a captain this season, registered 28 tackles
and four tackles for loss. He was a repeat second-team pick from a
year ago.
Martell has a team-high 65 tackles with a team-best 45 solo
tackles. He was also a All-Centennial All-Academic selection,
having a GPA higher than 3.4.
Henry is right behind Martell in tackles with 56, but, has a
team-high nine tackles for losses of 31 yards.
Stefanoni has registered 38 tackles, which is fourth-best on the
squad and has a team-high four sacks.
Galie, a repeat All-Conference honorable mention selection, had the
third-best tackle total on the squad with 49. He was an
All-Conference All-Academic selection.
Giannetti averaged 37.5 yards per punt on 53 attempts this season,
with 18 of his punts landing inside the 20 yard line. He was second
in the conference in punting, just .2 yards behind Brian Betley of
Gettysburg.
Ursinus will take on Kean University Saturday afternoon at high
noon in the ECAC Southwest Bowl.
