NORTHBROOK, Ill. – Ursinus College junior defensive back Mike Rissmiller (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) has been nominated as a finalist for the 2010 Allstate/AFCA Good Works Team. He is one of 112 finalists in all divisions of college football (Division I FCS and BCS, Division II, Division III and NAIA).
Rissmiller will find out in September if he is one of the 22 selected for the national team.
In the areas of giving back and volunteerism, the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team® represents the "best of the best" among more than 50,000 student-athletes participating in the sport at all four-year institutions. The total eclipses the 106 nominees achieved last season, demonstrating the continued growth of a platform that is widely recognized as the most prestigious community service award in college football.
Rissmiller is the executive athletic director for Intervarsity Christian Fellowship at Ursinus and was involved in a 30-hour famine last year to raise awareness for world hunger.
Last April, Rissmiller attended Jesus, Justice and the Poor and served in inner-city Philadelphia rebuilding homes along with cleaning the community.
He is hoping to be involved with Big Brothers-Big Sisters in the upcoming semester.
On the athletic field, he played in ten games last year with 37 tackles and two interceptions.
