Gymnastics opens season against West Chester

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus College women's gymnastics team started its season on Tuesday night by hosting West Chester as part of the Beauty and the Beast event along with the wrestling team.

In their opener, the Bears dropped a 186.750 to 179.400 decision to the Golden Rams.

The lone top finish for the Bears came from Kristina Steffenhagen who tied for the top spot on the floor exercise at 9.625.

On the beam, Allyson Getty took the top team spot with a score of 9.450, followed by Steffenhagen with a 9.400. Kristin Aichele took a 9.325, followed by Lauren Chavis with an 8.300 and Jamie Hammell a 8.000. Jillian Casarella had an 8.425

On the floor, Riley Acton had a 9.075, Casarella got a 8.975 and Vanessa Scalora had a 8.875. Megan Bolash scored a 8.800 and Tiannna Lettieri had a 8.775.

The vault saw Aichele net a 9.400, with Monica Durham getting a 9.300 and Scalora a 9.100. Steffenhagen got a 8.900 with Bolash (8.875) and Acton (8.850) rounding out the scoring.

On bars, Acton had a team-best 9.250. Casarella and Chavis had a 8.725, Durham had a 8.625 and Brittany Zickert had a 8.250. Hammell finished with a 8.175.

Ursinus hosts Ithaca on Sunday.
