Bears blanked by Haverford, 1-0

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Haverford freshman forward Julien Calas scored with 1:52 left in regulation as the Fords (4-4, 1-2 Centennial) defeated Ursinus (1-6-1, 0-3 Centennial) 1-0 on Wednesday afternoon in men’s soccer play on the Main Line.

Calas played the ball off a defender and got it past sophomore goalkeeper Mike Alfieri (Mount Laurel, N.J./Lenape) for the win.

Ursinus had two shots at the end of the match to try to tie, but, a shot by freshman forward Christian Cruz (Southampton, Pa./La Salle College) went wide and a shot by junior midfielder Brendan Gifford (Lansdale, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) was saved by Ford freshman goalkeeper Charlie Michele in the final minute.

Ursinus, who was outshot 13-7, got three saves from Alfieri. The Bears host Dickinson on Saturday.
