Murray golden in double overtime as Bears beat Eastern, 2-1

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Senior midfielder Ryan Murray (Media, Pa./Penncrest) scored a golden goal at 105:13 as the Ursinus men’s soccer team defeated Eastern 2-1 in double overtime Wednesday afternoon at a wind-whipped Wilkes Field.

Murray, who scored his second goal of the season, got an assist from junior midfielder Ian Reitman (Thorofare, N.J./Westtown School) on a corner kick for the win. The win for the Bears (2-7-1) snapped a seven-match losing streak.

Eastern (4-7) struck first as freshman midfielder Ryan Rohrer scored his third goal of the season on a header following a corner from junior midfielder Ben Faro at 14:53.

Ursinus tied the score at 1-all when senior midfielder David Breines (Holland Township, N.J./Del Val) scored at 66:18 on an assist from senior defender Tim Brandon (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Red Land).

Ursinus outshot the Eagles 21-11 on the afternoon. Sophomore goalkeeper Mike Alfieri (Mount Laurel, N.J./Lenape) had four saves, while sophomore goalkeeper Jon Crowder had eight saves for the Eagles.
