McDaniel defeats Ursinus, 3-1

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - McDaniel scored two goals in the final 22 minutes as the Green Terror (5-4, 2-0 Centennial) defeated Ursinus (1-5-1, 0-2 Centennial) 3-1 Saturday afternoon in men's soccer play.

Freshman midfielder Max Rutherford scored the game-winning goal for McDaniel at 68:14 on a cross from freshman midfielder Marrio Davis for a 2-1 lead. McDaniel would tack an extra goal on at 77:55 as junior Timothy Wineke scored on a shot from outside the 18.

The Green Terror scored the lone goal in the first half as sophomore forward Micah Powell scored on a high shot for a 1-0 lead.

Ursinus tied the score at 1-all at 56:14 as senior midfielder David Breines (Holland Township, N.J./Del Val) scored on a free kick.

McDaniel held a 15-10 advantage in shots. Sophomore goalkeeper Mike Alfieri (Mount Laurel, N.J./Lenape) had three saves, with senior goalkeeper Robert Hollasch having five saves for McDaniel.

Ursinus heads to Haverford on Wednesday.
