Bears blank Misericordia, 2-0

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - In front of a large home crowd, the Ursinus men's soccer team pitched its second straight shutout, blanking Misericordia 2-0 Saturday afternoon.

The Bears (1-0-1) got on the board early as freshman James Peeler (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove) scored his first collegiate goal at 5:33 on an assist from sophomore forward Jean Carlo Cordova (Quito, Ecuador/Spring-Ford).

Sophomore midfielder Andrew Machalick (Mountaintop, Pa./Crestwood) then scored at 30:36 on an assist from freshman midfielder Josh Howell (Cream Ridge, N.J./Allentown) for the 2-0 advantage.

That would be all Ursinus needed, as sophomore goalkeeper Mike Alfieri (Mount Laurel, N.J./Lenape) made seven saves in the win.

Ursinus will host DeSales next Saturday at 1.
