Bears look to continue progress heading into 2009-10 season

Coming off a 2008-09 season that saw 12 school records fall, the 2009-10 edition of the men’s and women’s swim teams have reason to believe this season could be even better.

“Our team is very young on both sides,” explains Head Coach and Director of Aquatics Mark Feinberg. “Most of the records set last year were by freshmen and sophomores. They are committed to improving themselves and motivated to climb the Centennial Conference standings.” Joining a talented group of returning veterans will be a solid recruiting class. “We are very happy with our incoming potential,” Feinberg added. “We should have more balanced squads and deeper talent. It’s exciting to project, but there’s a lot of hard work in front of us. We look forward to the challenge.”

The women’s team returns two-time conference finalist and 2008-09 team MVP Danielle Yentz. Bridget Winn, Jessica Saloky, and Emily Herman joined Yentz on the awards stand last season and anchor a team ready to make a move up the Centennial Conference.

The men’s team returns triple-event conference finalists Lloyd Tannenbaum and 2008-09 team MVP Chris Smith. Captain Brad Garman along with fellow contributing Bears Chris Doyle and Kevin Tallon welcome a big class of freshmen to the squad.

The Bears are equally proud of their academic and campus achievements. At 3.3, the team GPA continues to climb. With campus leaders throughout the swimming squad, team leadership will be the strength of this team. Feinberg echoes theses thoughts, “We have an extremely balanced group of young men and women here at UC. Not only are they dedicated to their sport, they perform in the classroom and in life. It’s a pleasure to work with them every day.”

Catch the Bears in action this November. After starting on the road at Lebanon Valley October 31, the swim teams will host Lycoming November 7.
