Men's Track and Field set to host Centennials

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus College track and field teams will be hosting the 2012 Centennial Conference Championships this weekend, starting on Friday and going all the way to Sunday.

It's the final of three meets at home for the Bears on their newly renovated track at Patterson Field. Ursinus has had two strong meets at home, and are looking to make a splash at the conference championships.

On Wednesday night, the performance lists were released and several Bears received high seeds heading into the championship.

Starting with the throws, senior Chris Salaga is ranked second in the javelin coming into the weekend with a 54.66 meter toss, while Marquis Wilson is third at 54.10.

Anthony Gochal (51.30, 7th) and Lance Jones (50.42, 8th) round out the javelin.

In the shot put, senior Andrew Carr is second with a 14.67 meter toss, with Brian Clancy in sixth at 13.21.

Moving to the jumps, Darius Jones is third in the high at 1.93 meters, with Evan Shea (1.80, 6th), and Phil Walker (1.78, 7th) also in the top eight for Ursinus.

In the pole vault, Gochal is sixth at 3.60 meters. Gochal will start his weekend early, as he will participate in the decathlon on Friday. He is seeded fourth with 4996 points.

On the track, Lance Jones is sixth in the 100 dash, coming in with a time of 11.33. She is third in the 110 hurdles at 15.86.

In the 400, Darius Jones is third at 49.77.

In the relays, Ursinus is seeded third in the 4x1 (43.02), fourth in the 4x4 (3:24.42) and sixth in the 4x8 at 8:37.30.
