CARLISLE, Pa. – The Ursinus College softball team once again finds themselves in the Centennial Conference tournament, but, this time the venue has changed.
After hosting the tournament the last few seasons, the Bears (17-16, 10-6 Centennial) will be on the road as they travel to Dickinson Park for the two-day event as Dickinson (18-15, 12-4) plays host. In fact, Ursinus will battle the Red Devils in the first round at high noon Saturday afternoon. Dickinson, who won the championship last season as the fourth seed, will be looking to win their second conference crown while Ursinus could win a Centennial best sixth title if they win the double elimination tourney.
To do that, the Bears will have to defeat one of the toughest pitchers in the conference in senior Allison Jordan. Jordan has thrown two perfect games in the last week to lower her ERA to 1.06. Dickinson is led by Emma Murtaugh who is batting a team-best .389 with 37 hits and 18 RBI. The Red Devils as a pitching staff post a 1.89 ERA.
Ursinus is led by sophomore center fielder Amy Gentile (Lumberton, N.J./Rancocas Valley), who Is batting a team-best .350 with 36 hits and nine RBI. Sophomore first baseman Allison Pfrommer (Franklinville, N.J./Delsea Regional) has a team-best 14 RBI and is batting .330. Ursinus has six starters who are batting above the .300 mark.
On the mound, sophomore Jennilyn Weber (Valley View, Pa./Tri-Valley) has an 11-8 mark coming into the tournament with a 1.34 ERA. She's struck out 98 batters while hosting batters to a .215 average.
In the first game of the day, Washington will take on Muhlenberg. The elimination game is at 2 p.m. on Sunday, with the two winners on Saturday meeting at 4 p.m. The consolation final is at 10 a.m. on Sunday, with the championship slated for noon Sunday.
