COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – For the 13th straight time, Ursinus will be a participant in the Centennial Conference Softball Championship on Saturday and Sunday, May 5-6, at McDaniel College.
The Bears (23-16) are once again the fourth seed and will match up against top seed McDaniel (24-12) at noon on Saturday. In the first game of the day, second-seed Washington (19-18) will take on third-seeded Gettysburg (20-15) at 10 a.m.
In the double elimination format, the two teams who lose in the first round will meet at 2 p.m. Saturday, while the two victors will meet at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
The consolation final is slated for 10 a.m., with the championship round starting at noon. If necessary, a seventh game will be played at 2 p.m. on Sunday. The winner of the tournament will receive the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
Ursinus, who won the tournament in 2005 and 2008, has gone 2-4 against the field. The Bears split games against McDaniel and Washington at home, and was swept by Gettysburg in extra innings on the road.
The Bears are led by junior first baseman Allison Pfrommer who leads the team in batting at .381. She has a team-best 48 hits and has scored 29 runs which is a team-high. She also has the team lead in doubles (8), triples (8) and RBI (26.).
Junior outfielder Amy Gentile is second on the team in hitting at .366, but, has a team-best 19 stolen bases on 19 attempts. Ursinus as a team has stolen 66 bases this season.
In the circle, junior Jennilyn Weber leads the team with a 2.04 ERA. In 25 appearances, she is 14-8 with 110 strikeouts and just 24 walks. In the Centennial Conference tournament, she is 1-2 lifetime, with her win coming against Washington College in last year's consolation semifinal.
