Jim Buckley enters his tenth season at the helm of the Ursinus
women’s basketball program.
Last year, the Bears finished 15-11 and made the Centennial
Conference playoffs. In 2007, the Bears appeared in the NCAA
Tournament for the first time since 1995, after winning the
Centennial Conference Championship.
Buckley came to Ursinus from Bryn Mawr College, where he served as
head women’s basketball coach for three seasons. Prior to
that, he had unparalleled success as the head coach at Germantown
Academy where his teams established an overall record of 250-89,
including a league record of 84-8 and 10 championships.
In addition, Buckley has extensive A.A.U. coaching experience with
the Fencor organization, which he co-founded, and the Comets. He
also spent one season as an assistant coach at the University of
the Sciences in Philadelphia.
In addition to his coaching duties at Ursinus, Buckley works in
admissions.
Buckley resides in Blue Bell, PA with his wife, Barbara. The
couple share five children and 13 grandchildren.
“Ursinus has the balance of an excellent academic reputation
and a strong athletic program,” said Buckley. “That
balance is what I envision collegiate athletics to be about. It is
an appealing college to a very broad band of
student-athletes.”
“Working with student-athletes as a teacher and coach for
the past 46 years has enabled me to enjoy a career which has been
completely gratifying,” Buckley continued. “As an
educator, I always endeavor to teach basketball so that the players
will learn how to play the game properly, but more importantly,
gain an appreciation for it. Success, then, becomes a product of
this effort.”
