Women's Lacrosse freezes Albright, 13-8

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Despite the cold weather, the Ursinus College women's lacrosse team scorched the net for 13 goals on Friday afternoon in a 13-8 win over Albright at Patterson Field in its season opener.

The Bears had a 10-3 halftime edge as they scored on 13 of their 19 shots on the day. Ursinus broke open a 4-3 game with six straight goals to end the first half, three of them by freshman forward Jayme Verman (York, Pa./Lancaster Country Day), who finished with a team-high four goals. Senior attack Amber Moyer (Womelsdorf, Pa./Conrad Weiser) and sophomore midfielder Mary Deliberti (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield-Ludlowe) each finished with three on the afternoon.

Albright (1-1) was led by four goals from Guiliana Rizzotti and three from Amanda Smith. Smith also had an assist for the Lions.

Deliberti finished with five draw controls and three caused turnovers, with her and sophomore attack Brynn Dietzel (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South) each grabbing three ground balls.

In goal, sophomore goalkeeper Margaret Philbin (Danbury, Conn./Ridgefield) had eight saves.
