COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - Freshman Jayme Verman netted five goals, but it wasn't enough to overcome Muhlenberg dropping the Bears 16-10 on senior day, Saturday afternoon at Patterson Field.
The Bears fall to .500 for the season with an 8-8 record going 3-6 in the Centennial Conference. Ursinus improves their record from the 4-12 finish in the 2013 season. The Mules move to 10-6 and 4-5 in conference.
Muhlenberg's Casey Armstrong had a phenomenal day with nine goals, falling just shy of tying the Centennial Conference record at 11.
In a game with six lead changes the Bears jumped out to an early lead with goals from Emma Ebert and Verman making it 2-0 within the first seven minutes of the game.
Armstrong went on a four goal tear in four minutes to put the Mules back on top with a 4-2 lead. Devin Brackel and Verman returned the Bears lead with three goals taking a 5-4 lead with 11:19 remaining in the half.
Both teams exchanged a pair of goals but Verman broke the tie with 1:15 remaining to put the Bears on top going into the half 8-7.
The game remained close in the second half until the Mules scored 5 unanswered goals putting the game out of reach.
