Porcelan scores three times as Bears breeze past Bryn Mawr, 7-1

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - Leading by just one at halftime, Ursinus scored five unanswered goals in the second half as the Bears (5-3, 2-1 Centennial) breezed past Bryn Mawr (2-8, 0-3 Centennial) 7-1 Tuesday afternoon at a breezy Wilkes Field.

Sophomore midfielder Jess Porcelan (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) scored three goals, including two in the second half as the Bears outshot the Owls 29-4.

Porcelan scored her first goal at 11:56 on a pass from senior defender Cindy Taylor (Schwenksville, Pa./Boyertown) for the early 1-0 lead. Senior midfielder Megan Ascanio (Reading, Pa./Exeter) gave the Bears a 2-0 lead at 17:29 on an assist from freshman forward Leah Shaw (Bordentown, N.J./Bordentown Regional).

Bryn Mawr got to within a goal at 2-1 as senior midfielder Akua Nyame-Mensah scored on a drive from midfield on a pass from sophomore forward Lizzie Robinson.

In the second half, Porcelan scored 17 seconds in the second stanza on a pass from Taylor for a  3-1 lead. Ascanio then scored her second goal of the match at 51:15. Shaw added her second assists.

Ascanio would assist on Porcelan's next goal at 55:12 for a 5-1 Ursinus lead. Freshman forward Natalie Massari (West Deptford, N.J./West Deptford) scored her first collegiate goal on a header at 66:47 on an assist from sophomore midfielder Angela Lenzo (Hightstown, N.J./Hightstown).

Lenzo scored the final goal of the game at 68:50 as she tipped in the ball near the right side of the goal.

Freshman goalkeeper Justine Harvey (Accident, Md./Northern Garrett Co.) made one save in 71 minutes, while freshman goalkeeper Claire Yergeau (Ossining, N.Y./Ossining) made one save in the final 19 minutes for the Bears.

For Bryn Mawr, sophomore goalkeeper Allaina Propst made six saves in 68 minutes, while freshman Emily McBride had one save in 21 minutes of work.

Ursinus hosts Gettysburg on Saturday.
