Women's Track and Field third at Centennials
HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Ursinus College women's indoor track and field team finished third overall at the 2011 Centennial Conference Indoor Championships with a total score of 87 points.
The Bears top finisher was freshman Amy Galvin (Audubon, Pa./Methacton) who won the high jump, clearing a height of 1.57 meters (5 feet, 1.75 inches). Teammate sophomore Celina Sooksatan (Nutley, N.J./Nutley) was second at 1.57 meters, but, Galvin won the tie as she cleared 1.57 on her first attempt, while Sooksatan cleared it on her second attempt.
Sophomore Amanda Laurito (Philadelphia, Pa.) had a very strong day as she set school records in the 55, 200 and the 4 x 200 meter relay. She was also an NCAA provisional qualifier in the 55 meter dash, as her time of 7.29 set the school record and was .01 better than the NCAA provisional mark. She was second in the event.
In the 4x200, she teamed up with junior Kirsten King (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield Memorial), senior Lauren Lammers (Haddon Heights, N.J./Bishop Eustace) and freshman Victoria Goodenough (Oxford, England/McDonogh School) to finish with a time of 1:46.99 which was good enough for second place.
In the 200, she picked up a third place finish with a time of 26.70, while King finished fifth in the event at 26.84. King had a third place finish in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:00.09.
Goodenough set a school record in the 55 high hurdles, finishing second overall with a time of 8.60.
In the other track events, the team of freshman Rachel Albershardt (Kensington, Md./Walter Johnson), sophomore Carina Doyle (Holliston, Mass./Holliston), senior Deb Yanessa (Haddonfield, N.J./Paul IV) and senior Ali Nolan (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) finished fourth in the DMR with a time of 13:00.88. In the 4 x 8 relay, the team of freshman Anna Lopresti (Northfield, N.J./Mainland Regional), sophomore Brianna Kramer (Drums, Pa./MMI Prep), Yannessa and Albershardt was fifth with a time of 10:28.81. In the 4x4 relay, the team of Doyle, junior Lauren Goldstein (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown), King and Goodenough was fifth with a time of 4:12.95.
Doyle finished eighth in the 400 dash at 1:01.91.
In the field events, junior Amy Schaefer (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South) was fourth in the pole vault at 3.05 meters (10 feet even), while junior Lauren Surman (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown Area) was eighth at 2.90 (9 feet, 6.25 inches).
Freshman Annie Hudson (Rochester, N.Y./Emma Willard) was fourth in the high jump at 1.52 meters (4 feet, 11.75 inches), with Lopresti going sixth at 1.52 meters, but, Hudson won the tie as she cleared 1.52 meters on her second attempt.
Freshman Katie Williams (Burlington, N.J./Burlington Township) was eighth in the shot put with a throw of 10.82 meters (35 feet, 6 inches).
